Currently Mill Island is constructing a new roof for the entire building. Six inches of insulation is added to the existing structure which is then tarred and sealed. A rubber roof will be torched on for the finished product.

Scrubbed parking lotWe have removed over 300 loads of earth from other construction sites and recycled it into fill for our parking lot. We continue to grade and prep for the final paving phase.

sandblasted brick walls and wood floor Top floor showing sandblasted walls and sanded floor

sanded floorWe are nearly finished blasting the interior brick. The third floor is completely done and some of the hardwood floor has been sanded. An example of the sanding and subsequent staining is visible. All the wooden beams have also been exposed and blasted. Skylight enclosures have been built and inserted. There are 199 windows, all of which will be replaced. That process has begun and pictures will be available soon. The brick blasters are now working on the first floor and should be finished soon. We have brick masons on site that are adding mortar and finishing the brick surface.

Toledo floor scaleThis is a Toledo scale. It is in keeping with the ones built circa 1930. It has a 1600 lb capacity and will remain as a historical point of interest.

November 2006 - Our progress to date:

  • Two sheds have been removed.
  • We completed the interior demolition, and are currently blasting the interior brick with CO2 and walnut shells (an environmentally-friendly abrasive technique).
  • The building is ready for roofing.
  • All new windows are ordered.
  • The parking lot has been scrubbed and is under construction.

The office is open. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9-4.
